FEDAGA AGM supports drive to evict negligent tenants.

The FEDAGA Annual General Meeting unanimously agreed to support our representatives on the Council's Allotment Strategy Committee in their bid to have the Council (the landlord) implement a much more stringent eviction policy. For decades, it was noted, there have been far too many neglected plots festering away on Council-run sites. With the number of applicants steadily rising, the number of dirty plots that are not productive has attracted increasingly adverse comment. Those that have plots don't appreciate invasive weeds messing up their efforts and those that aspire to plots fail to understand why they can't have a plot which they would take pride in and care for. As was stated at the meeting, it would appear to be easier to evict an antisocial tenant from their Council House than deal properly with an antisocial allotment holder.
Our representatives now have a strong mandate to persuade the Council to implement a fairer and more robust system to quickly deal with those tenants who apparently quite like the idea of having an allotment but are scared of actually putting in a bit of effort. It should be pointed out that in genuine cases of ill-health a sympathetic and constructive approach will be taken, but the scandal of the many blighted sites must be firmly dealt with.
